CHAPTER 18

 

THE END GAME

 

As Clinton and his father sat talking over their plan to expose The Boss, Chelsea was making a cup of tea for the three of them.

 

“So Dad how are we going to do this, we need a positive plan going forward and we need to put in place a get out to” asked Clinton

 

“Listen son we will not need a get out, just the positive plan, which will take us forward and expose the man for what he is, an extortionist, a fraud and a murderer” replied James

 

“What do you mean by a murderer” asked Clinton with a shocked look on his face.

 

“Well you know that there was a burn and chard body found in Spain at the bottom of a ravine, well that was the body of Charlie King or as he was know, P King, and do you know who shot him and set alight to the body, yes The Boss, so you see Clinton this man is dangerous and he will stop at nothing to do what he wants” replied James to Clinton’s question

 

“He is not like that ever” replied Clinton

 

“Well Clinton my son, your wife to be and your lovely two girls are they in a safe place, because if they are not they will be next and believe me this man shows no mercy and would not hesitate to throw your two girls to a pack of wolves and watch them get torn apart just for the fun of it, because he can make a bit of money of it, he will take money on which one would get ripped apart first and not only that he would make Isabella watch it happen, before he threw her in to and watch her get torn apart, this is how psychotic this man is” replied James

 

Clinton looked at his father with tears in his eyes and a look of shock on his face and replied “That won’t happen to my beautiful girls, all three of them, they are out of his reach any way, I have sent them to stay with Oliver in Scotland, until all of this is over”

 

“Now that is the best news I have heard today” James replied smiling to Clinton.

 

With that Chelsea came into the room with the tea and they started to come up with the plan to expose The Boss.

 

“Right Chelsea, do you think Cresandra will be able to help, we need her to arrange a meeting between me and The Boss” asked James

 

“Yes she will, but only when she knows that Daniel is safe and well out of his clutches” replied Chelsea

 

“I can get that sorted, Clinton do you think your mate Russ will help, If I could get Daniel and Cresandra together and maybe send them to Ireland to stay with Russ, but we would need to get Daniel first” replied James

 

“Look father, if Russ can be of help, I am sure he will, but how do you suggest we get Daniel from his foster home” replied Clinton

 

“Listen Clinton, you leave that to me, I have my contacts and Cresandra will do anything for that boy, I have known her many years now and he has always come first, no matter what anyone thinks about her, yes she may use her body to get what The Boss wants but she sure does look after that boy” replied Chelsea

 

“Ok good now the plan going forward is this, Chelsea, you get Cresandra to get The Boss to meet me, need to tell him, I can get Clinton to do a deal with him, tell him I am his agent and that I want a 10% cut, he won’t argue as, he will be able to get the brightest new thing in the cricket and that is what he wants” said James

 

“But Dad I don’t want to do that” replied Clinton

 

“Clinton my son you won’t be, we need to let The Boss think you are, we will fit you up with a recording device and when we do it we will have the police on standby to arrest him, we need him to admit to the murder of Charlie King and the sanctioning of your grandmothers death, once we have that, he is a goner, by that time his family will know exactly what he is and what he stand for” replied James

 

“But Nan said no police” replied Clinton

 

“Clinton, what your Nan said, is neither here or there, the police need to know, they need to be there for our safety, you see the last person the Boss is expecting to turn up is me, he thinks I dies 18 years ago, yes he will be shocked” replied James

 

There was then a knock at the door and Chelsea went to answer it, stood at the door was, DC Jane Murray and DI Jon Davies.

 

“Hello we are here to see a Mr. James Radford” the asked

 

“Come in he is just through here” replied Chelsea as she directed them to the living room.

 

They both walked in to be greeted by James.

 

“Hello you two, was wondering when you would turn up, was just running through the plan with my son Clinton here and Chelsea” replied James

 

“What” replied Clinton?

 

“Well Clinton, your father and us go back many years and he spoke to us a few weeks back about what has been going on, we have been try to nail this guy The Boss for about four years now, but no one has ever been able to give us his name” replied DC Jane Murray

 

“Well now we know his real name, but we need to keep it quiet for the time being so he does not get suspicious and go to ground and that is where you and your father come in Clinton, you need to set up the meet and we will lay in wait until he spills the beans on what he has done and then we can arrest him, but we need him to admit to the murder of Charlie King, first and foremost and the rest will come” said DI Jon Davies

 

 

 

As Clinton and James sat intently listening to the police Chelsea stood in the door way looking at the both of them sat there and thought how much I like they were and how Clinton had so many of his father’s mannerisms and handsome good looks.

 

“So then the plan is I meet up with The Boss and get him to spill the beans and tell me that he shot Charlie King and the names of the rest of The Syndicate ?” asked Clinton.

 

“Yes Clinton that is the plan” replied James, but he had a look of trepidation and concern on his face when he did.

 

“What is up, dad you have that look on your face, that you are not sure that what I am doing is right and just” Clinton replied

 

“No it is not that Clinton, I am worried for Isabella and the twins” James Replied

 

James turned looked at Chelsea and asked “Is Oliver able to look after the three of them up in Scotland”

 

Chelsea looked at James with a twinkle in her eye and a look of love on her face as she answered “It is done spoke to him earlier before you turned up, he will collect them in about an hour from Isabella’s house, I have phoned her and asked her to pack a bag for her and the twins, all I said is she is going away for a few days to stay with me up in Scotland, Oliver will pick me up on the way to the airport”

 

Clinton looked at his mother and then to his father and said “So I have no say in this then you are just going to do it over my head and take my beautiful children and their mother away and I have no say in it”

 

James looked straight at Clinton in his eyes and said “Clinton if we don’t do this their lives will be in danger, you really have no Idea who you are dealing with here do you, he is a nasty piece of work and would not hesitate to take the babies and he will and mark my words as this will be strong and to the point feed them to the wolves and have people there to watch it and take bets on it, so my son, we need to do this, if you love Isabella and The Twins and I have no doubt you do, you will do this and keep them safe and once we have The Boss in custody, we can bring them home and being with Oliver is safest way”

 

“Clinton, believe me they will be safe, we will send two undercover detectives with them if it will make you feel better, the uttermost importance her is your safety and that of you family” replied DC Jane Murray.

 

Clinton turned and looked DC Jane Murray and replied “If they have a couple of detectives with them and you can guarantee their safety, they ok we will do it”

 

“There is only one thing, she will not be able to tell anyone where she is going and you know why don’t you not even her father and you know why don’t you” DI Jon Davies replied

 

“yes I do understand that, I will tell her not to speak to anyone, I will tell her this has been arranged by the ECB because there has been threats made against me and she needs to be taken out of the situation for a while” Clinton replied

 

“Clinton that’s a great Idea and if it makes you feel better I will travel to Scotland with them and look after the three of them for you, to give you piece of mind” replied Chelsea

 

“You will do that Mum” Clinton Replied

 

“Listen Clinton, your brother and sister are already up there and it would be only right for me to travel with my grandchildren and if Isabella needs any help, I will be there” Chelsea replied

 

DC Jane Murray looked at Clinton and said “Clinton that is the best Idea I have heard today let your mother go and be with you Children and their mother, your father is still here and he can help you through what we are going to do, but you and only you, can make the decision on doing this and bringing these people down”

 

“So son what do you want to do, go ahead with this and bring these people down or are you just going to let them walk all over people” James replied

 

“Listen everyone, I am not a quitter and I want to bring this evil man down, once and for all, get me wired up and let me get the truth out of him, but how am I going to get to meet him” asked Clinton

 

A woman walked into the room and said “That’s where I come in” a voice said Clinton thought I recognize that voice, he turned around and stood there was Cresandra Drake

 

“Yes Clinton, I will set it up before I go into witness protection, these kind people have got me my son back and it is the right thing to do” Cresandra Drake replied.

 

“Cresandra “please don’t do witness protection, you can be valuable to us” DC Jane Murray replied

 

“But if I don’t this man will get me and remember he is the father of my son” replied Cresndra Drake to what was said to her.

 

“Yes we understand that Miss Drake but, we have ways and means of protecting you and your son from him, without you going into witness protection” Answered DI Jon Davies to Cresandra’s question.

 

“You give me one very good reason why I should not go into witness protection and I will think about it and until then I go into it” replied Cresandra in a soft subtle voice.

 

“I can give you a very good reason Cresandra and you may not like what I am about to say, but it does need to be said” replied Clinton as he looked straight at her with a frightening wide eyed stare.

 

“Yes and what would that be Clinton” Cresandra replied with a bit of a sigh.

 

“Well how are you going to explain to Daniel, that he can’t have any friends and can’t go and do what other children do because you are in witness protection, why he had to change his name and why he will never ever be able to have a normal life” Clinton replied looking straight at Cresandra.

 

Cresandra looked straight back at Clinton and replied with tears in her eyes “Clinton Radford, that is the most sense anyone has ever spoken to me in my life” Cresandra then turned to DI Davies and DC Murray and said “how are you going to keep myself and my son safe from this monster”

 

“Miss Drake we will put you under twenty four hour protection and we will also put your son into a school close to your how, no change of name and will also get a restraining order stopping this man coming near you, yet if what we are about to do comes of then, there will be no need for that, the net is closing around him now and he is getting nervy, remember this Miss Drake, the only person better than yourself, is the person you have yet to become, you are being very brave in doing what you are about to do and you should be very proud of yourself as I am sure Daniel will be” replied James Radford looking deep into Cresandra’s bloodshot eyes as her tears were running down her cheeks, Cresandra just looked at him and nodded her head.

 

“Right now we have got that sorted we need to get on with things” replied DI Jon Davies he turned and looked at Clinton and said “Isabella and the twins are on their way here for you to say goodbye for now and for your mother to go with to the airport, for the trip to Scotland”

 

“Thank you” Clinton replied

 

With that there was a knock on the door and DC Jane Murray went to answer it, it was the two officers sent to pick up Isabella and the twins, Isabella walked in holding the twins, she looked at Clinton and asked “Clinton my love, what is going on”

 

Clinton walked over and took Courtenay off Isabella and said to her “Sit here love and I will explain” with that Isabella sat down with Georgia in her arms.

 

“Isabella I need you to listen to what I have to tell you and take it in, what I am about to do will upset you although I can’t explain why at the moment, what I need you to do is go with my mother to Scotland for a few days until the dust has settled down and stay with Oliver at his High Land retreat, mother and Oliver will look after you, Georgia and Courtenay, I will join you when it is safe for me to do so and bring you back home” Clinton explained to Isabella will holding Courtney very tight.

 

“But Clinton, I don’t want to leave you, I don’t want to go and what can’t you tell me” Isabella replied to Clinton as a lone tear fell down her silky smooth cheek

 

With that Clinton put his finger up to Isabella’s lips as if to tell her to be quiet and wiped the lone tear that was running down her silky smooth cheek and whispered to her “Trust Me” as he looked deep into her eyes, Isabella whispered back “Yes I do trust you” and give him a warm tender kiss on his lips, with that she arose from her chair looked at Chelsea and said “Chelsea I know you will look after the three of us” Clinton stood up and walked over to his mother and gave her Courtney, giving Courtney a kiss on her forehead as he did so and whispered “I love you”, he then walked to Isabella gave her a kiss on her warm silky tender cheek and kissed Georgia on the head and whispered “I love you”

 

 

Isabella then left with Chelsea and the police officers to make their trip to Scotland and be with Oliver Kennedy, when they left Clinton turned to DI Jon Davies and said “Right let’s get this done so I can get back to Isabella and the girls, they are my main priority now”

 

“Right then Clinton the plan is to get you wired up when we make the meeting with the boss, all we need is for him to admit, that he killed Charlie King and that he is the main man in the syndicate, once we have that we can arrest him and not before, as I said we need him to admit to the killing of Charlie King” DI Jon Davies said to Clinton.

 

“My part Clinton, is to set up the meeting with him and I will tell him you are interested with taking some money to play bad, once I have done that I am out of here with Daniel, that’s right isn’t it DI Davies” Cresandra said looking at DI Jon Davies.

 

“Miss Drake, Daniel is safe once you have arranged the meeting, both you and him will be able to follow Chelsea, Isabella and the twins to Scotland you will all be safe there” replied DI Davies, but unbeknown to them DI Davies was under close surveillance by his fellow officers and was now going to be exposed.

 

In to the room walked Chief Inspector Ronald James the look on the face of DI Jon Davies was a picture of shock “DI Jon Davies, I am arresting you on suspicion of leaking Sensitive information, taking corrupt payments from a third party, you have the right to remain silent, if you give up that right anything you say will be taken down and can and will be used as evidence in a court of law” with that DI Jon Davies was handcuffed a lead away.

 

The Chief Inspector then looked at Cresandra Drake and said “Genie my daughter you have done me proud, now time to get the boss, sorry you had to see that Mr. Radford, but my daughter there has been watching him closely ever since we were put on to him, yes she has slept with a few people, to get this far, but it had to be done, now we have to put an end to him”

 

Both Clinton and his father James had a look of shock on their faces at what had just happened “So you are a police officer Cresandra or is it Genie or whatever your name is” asked James

 

“Yes James I am and have been for 19 years now and have been getting closer and closer to the boss and use the story I was his long lost half sister, that was until Georgia was getting to close and I had to take a back seat and go for DI Jon Davies, once he was out of the way we could go for the boss” Replied Genie James

 

“Well I am lost” replied Clinton

 

“Clinton all you need to know is that we had to do what we have for all these years to protect you and your father, but more importantly you, you are the only person who can bring this man down and that is why things have been done this way, to send Isabella and the twins along with your mother to Scotland, for their protection and your own, this man is a dangerous and can kill at any time and we believe that it is him who has killed Charlie King” Replied Genie James

 

“Clinton my son, we need you to do this and be right behind us as we need to bring him to his knees” Replied James Radford

 

“I will do this for you, but I just hope that Isabella and Sandra, can forgive me for doing it” Replied Clinton

 

“Clinton, If they both love they will forgive you and will know that you have done this for all the right reasons” replied James Radford

 

“Right what will I have to do” Replied Clinton

 

“Right Clinton we will fit you with a listening device, all we need you to do is get him to admit to the murder of Charlie King, once we have that we will take over and arrest him” Replied DC Jane Murray.

 

“When is the meeting set for” replied Clinton

 

“The meeting is set for one o’clock this afternoon at his The Hilton Hotel lounge bar, it was set up by myself last night” Replied Genie James

 

As Clinton prepared himself for the meeting with the Boss, his thoughts were wandering, as he now knew who the boss was and he was no going to meet the man who had taken his grandmother and to a certain extent his father away from him, the other thought that came to his mind was why did he do these things why did he ruin so many peoples’ lives and hurt and kill so many people and in a matter of minutes he was going to find out, he now knew who he was and he was someone he knew very well and was very close to, he must also remember to leave the door unlocked if he could and when he got from the boss yes it was me the police would come in.

 

In room one zero two at the Hilton Hotel the boss was pacing the floor of the room, like an expectant father, his heart was racing, he knew he was going to eventually meet the person he hoped would be his next big thing to bring his money in even it meant ruining the life of this person and that of the woman the boss loved and cherished.

 

As Clinton approached the room his heart was pounding beneath his chest the adrenalin was rushing around his body, he was now going to meet the man who had caused so much heart ache to his family and was going to bring him down or at least to justice.

 

Clinton walked to the door and knocked it a voice shouted “COME IN MR.RADFORD” in a deep voice, Clinton entered the room making sure he left the door unlock as he did so and walked into the room and slowly to a tall figure looking out of the window.

 

“Hello Nathaniel” said Clinton as he sat down

 

“So then Clinton, you now know my true identity, you grandmother could never keep to her word could she” replied the boss still staring out of the window at the afternoon sun.

 

“Well she had your card, didn’t she, she knew what you were all about, so what do I tell Isabella about that you are a false, scheming murdering bastard, who would put his own daughter and grandchildren’s lives at risk for what a few miserly pound” replied Clinton

 

Nathaniel Thomas turned around with a devilish look on his face and stared straight at Clinton and said “Don’t you ever bring Isabella or the twins in to this; I would never do anything to hurt them”

 

“Well that what you say, less of the chit, chat let’s get down to business is it, you know why I am here and I know what you want from me and I will tell you this I don’t come cheap, Ten Grand won’t be enough, maybe six hundred grand will do for starters, as I know you won’t kill me being the father of your grand children” replied Clinton

 

In another room DC Murray and Chief Inspector James and James Radford were sat listening to the conversation when James looked at the other two and said “What the hell is he doing, he is putting his life at risk, and you can’t negotiate with this man”

 

 

DC Murray looked at James and said “Look he is doing ok, once he admits to the killing of Charlie King we will get in there and get him out”

 

“You what Clinton, you just don’t know me do you, Isabella and the twins really mean nothing to me, Isabella is not my daughter you see, her mother had an affair years ago and Isabella the bastard child she is, is the result, so you see I would not hesitate to kill her and the kids, come to think of it, maybe I will throw the kids to the dogs and take bets and see which one gets ripped apart first, so Clinton my boy don’t fuck with me, you will have offer and one offer only” replied Nathaniel Thomas the boss

 

“You Bastard, you sick bastard” Clinton replied getting out of his seat

 

“SIT DOWN NOW YOU FUCKING BASTARD OR I WILL SHOOT YOU” shouted Nathanial Thomas the boss as he pointed a gun at Clinton.

 

Clinton sat back down in his seat when a familiar figure walked into the room. Nathanial Thomas had a look of shock on his face when he saw who had just walked into the room.

 

“Dad what are you doing, put that gun away” said a woman’s voice

 

“Well, Well, Well if it is not the bastard child, hello Isabella, get over there and join him, you can both die together and those children will be mine” Nathanial replied with a devilish laugh under his voice as he motioned Isabella to the chair next to Clinton

 

“What are you on about bastard child, you are my father” Isabella replied

 

“See that is where you are wrong my girl, your slut of a mother had an affair years ago with an old mate of mine by the name of Charles King or as he was known to his mates P and you were the result and as I felt sorry for your mother I took you on, you are no more mine as Clinton dear boy there is”

 

In the adjoining room James Radford was getting very restless, after hearing this news, he looked at DC Murray and said “You have got to get him out of there” as he said this he left the room and as DC Murray left to follow him she was stopped by Chief Inspector James, who said to her “Look let him go he may help get what we need and as soon as we have it, we will pounce” DC Murray looked at him and replied “OK”

 

AS Nathaniel stood there with a gun pointing at Clinton and Isabella, another figure walked into the room

 

“I’m sorry, the door was open” a voice said

 

Nathaniel turned and looked at the door he recognized the voice he was thinking to himself it couldn’t be not after all these years he is dead isn’t he, in to the room walked James Radford.

 

Nathaniel Thomas’s face went white as if he had seen a ghost. It was James Radford “I thought you were dead” he said as he looked at James

 

“Put your tongue away Nat, you look as if you have seen a ghost and what do we have here my son and his beautiful fiancée, what do you have planned for these two then my old mate can I help in any way” replied James Radford with a very disturb look on his face

 

“The same as what you did to Charlie is it, shot them and then dispose of the body, in what a shallow grave or in the lake” asked James Radford

 

“James my old mate, think I will take them to the farm, shoot them both and send the bodies through the mincer for the pig meat and them feed them to the pigs, no evidence left then, to trace back to me and come to think of it how the hell do you know about Charles King”  replied Nathaniel Thomas

 

“Well Nat, I was looking at you through binoculars from the other side other valley and saw everything how, he was down on his knee’s begging for his life and you shot him three times, twice in the chest and once in the head and then kicked his body down the ravine” replied James Radford

 

“Well the bastard deserved everything he got and see her there she will go the same way because she is his bastard daughter, he begged me for mercy, his last word were I have helped you for years make your empire and I replied you fucked my wife, gave me a daughter I did not want and every day, I look at her I see you and then put the bullet in his head and bang he was gone, just hope the last thought he had going through his mind was I should never have fucked with him, but I am damn sure it was the bullet” Nathaniel Thomas replied laughing

 

With that armed police burst through the door shouting “PUT THE GUN DOWN NOW AND PUT YOUR HANDS UP, NOW”

 

Nathaniel Thomas stood there and dropped the gun before he had time to move and raised his hands in the air; Clinton, Isabella and James were ushered out of the room quickly

 

“Nathaniel Thomas aka the Boss, we are arresting you for the murder of Charles King, you do not have to say anything, but it will harm you defense if you fail to mention something you may rely on later in court” with that the police lead Nathaniel Thomas aka The Boss away in handcuffs to be questioned about the murder of Charlie King, on suspicion to make corrupt payments and assisting in the murder of Georgia Thompson.

 

A few months later after the dust had settled Clinton went to visit his grandmother’s grave with Isabella and the twins as the news braking that Nathaniel Thomas aka The Boss had been found guilty  

 

 

Chelsea, James and Oliver were sat watching the TV when a news report interrupted the programme they were watching

 

 

“We have some braking news from The Old Bailey, where this morning Nathaniel Thomas, Curtis James-Rowe and Jason Bartholomew all members of a group Known as the Syndicate, who were all involved in fixing sports events have been sentenced to terms of imprisonment ranging from eight years to forty five years, they were as follows, Jason Bartholomew eight years for the hit and run of Georgia Thompson, this was a reduced sentence because of evidence he gave against the other two, Curtis James-Rowe, twenty eight years for conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to take corrupt payments to help influence sports events and also his involvement in the hit and run of Georgia Thompson and The group ring leader Nathaniel Thomas AKA The Boss he got twenty eight  years for the murder of Charles King, nine  years for his involvement in the hit and run of Georgia Thompson and a further eight years for making corrupt payments to sports stars to influence the outcome to defraud bookmakers, he was also told he would have to serve at least thirty five years of this sentence, the case is still open on the syndicate and the police expect to make further arrests in the near future, the judge also praised Clinton Radford the England Cricketer who help to bring these men and more to justice, two of England and Australian cricketers remain on remand pending further enquiries into match fixing”

 

The broadcast ended

 

As Clinton, Isabella and the twins were at the graveside Clinton received a text message from his mother and it read:-

 

The Boss Forty Five years, Curtis Twenty Eight years and Jason B Eight years, you done it son, your grandmother would have been very proud of you.

 

Mum xxxx

 

Clinton looked at Isabella and smiled, then turned to Georgia’s grave and said “Nan they are now behind bars and all thanks to you and your letter, I Love You”

 

Isabella whispered in Clinton’s ear “Love you” Clinton turned to her and gave her a kiss on her lips and said “I Love you too”
