The Fix
Chapter One
Chapter One
The beginning
Clinton James-Rowe was a lively teenager who lived in a run down sea side town on the South Coast of England.
He was to become a superstar in the world of cricket, a big one at that, he was also to go from rags to riches, not only was this to happen to him he would almost bring an establishment to it's knee's through cricket.
Clinton was a nice happy young man with sky blue eyes, and a brilliant bright smile with jet black hair that was shoulder length, that he sometime wore in a ponytail, to be honest he had model looks and was very handsome to say the least.
His father would beat him to a pulp for nothing at all, in his younger days, one time his father beat him so much and so hard, that Clinton spent six days in hospital with five broken ribs and a broken wrist.
At times Clinton did not know why his father would beat him like this, maybe it was because his father did not like him and had never wanted him ever since he was a baby.
As Clinton grew up, he spent a lot of his time at his Grandparents, in the garden playing cricket with his grandfather.
And his grandfather would often tell him about his club record breaking score of Two Hundred and fifty one not out.........

Granddad replied with joy in his voice and a glint in his eye "Yes Clinton I batted the whole innings and we only lost two wickets and it was a club and league record partnership"

"Well I'm getting to it Clinton, it was a massive three hundred and eighty five runs we came together at fifteen for two after three over’s and bare in mind Clinton my boy in those days we played forty over cricket not the fifty over’s they play today, so you can see it was a massive score of four hundred for two" Granddad replied with a chuckle in his voice.
"Fantastic a three hundred and eighty five run partnership, if my math’s is right that's over ten an over, gramps that is going some" Clinton laughed out loud.

"OK Granddad I only asked as I am, a bit confused with what you are saying to me" Clinton said with a very big yell at the top of his voice with a touch of anger in it.

"What are you two shouting about, I have never heard you raise your voices to each other before, come on tell me what is going on" Grandmother Georgia asked with a raised voice and a look of shock on her face.

"Well then Clinton, I know this is a shock to your system and it is allot to take in but myself and your Grandmother are going to try and explain as much as we can, but understand this, at this point in time we do not want your mother or your father to know we have had this chat" Granddad replied nervously.

"Excuse me Granddad who the bleeding ell is Geoff Boycott or what ever his name is" Clinton asked sarcastically.
"Who is Geoff Boycott, only one of the greatest batsmen England ever produced, a fine, fine player" Granddad replied, laughing shaking his head in disgust at what Clinton had just said

"Right Clinton my boy it is a long story so sit down and listen carefully at what I am about to tell you, your mother met your father, on the day of the record partnership" Replied Granddad taking a deep breath.
" I am listening Granddad and I have got plenty of time as I am staying the night" Clinton replied with a huff and a shrug of his shoulders.
"The day of this innings your mother turned up at the game after about 10 over’s I think, when she finished work" Granddad replied with a puzzled look on his face.
"What mum worked, don't make me laugh" Clinton said with a slight chuckle in his voice and a look of shock on his face.
"Clinton less of the sarcasm and more of the listening" Granddad told Clinton with a bit of raised voice.......
"Ok sorry granddad I am just a bit shocked that’s all to know mum worked" Clinton replied..
"Clinton there is a lot about you mother you do not know" Granddad replied looking deep into Clinton’s eyes.

"Yes Granddad warts and all I want to know everything" Clinton replied....
"well here we go" Granddad replied looking Clinton in the eyes.
"You see Clinton, your mother was a pretty young woman at the age of twenty one when she met James Radford" Granddad replied........
"Yes I know I have seen some old photo's around, as they would say today Granddad, she is a stunner" said Clinton.
"Yep I think that’s what you say today" Granddad replied.
"Yes they do granddad" Clinton replied....

"Your mother and James met the day that James and I put on that record partnership"
"What mum likes cricket" Clinton asked...
"Yes she does and she is a qualified cricket coach to go with it, more qualified than Grandmother Georgia" Granddad replied looking at Clinton.
"What?" Clinton said with shock in his voice and on his youthful face.
"You heard my boy your mother is a qualified cricket coach" Granddad replied swiftly.
"So we have gathered that mum is a qualified cricket coach, but how did mum and my biological father James Meet" Clinton asked.
"They met that day and had a drink that night together, you see your mother worked two jobs" Granddad replied.....
"What mother worked two jobs, don't make me laugh" Clinton Replied to Granddad with a laugh...
"Now Clinton, don't be cheeky, yes your mother worked at the local supermarket and behind the bar at the Cricket Club and my boy she worked hard to" Granddad replied looking at Clinton for a facial reaction but there was none.
"What Mum worked two jobs, it's so hard to believe when she does not work today and is a pale of the bright breezy person you talk of" Clinton replied with a sad look and a tear running down his face.

"But let’s leave that for now and talk about your father" Granddad asked......
"OK" Replied Clinton......
"You see Clinton my boy your father James was a very good cricketer and very handsome to go with it, all the girls would flock around him, but I believe he only had eyes for girl and that was your mother" Granddad replied with some happiness in his voice and tears running down his face.
"So do I look like my father then Granddad" asked Clinton.......
"Look like him, Clinton you are a double of him, why do you think your Grandmother treats you like the son she never had, your grandmother always wanted a son not long after your mother was born, we found out your grandmother had an infection after she gave birth to your mother and the infection caused damage to her ovaries and they had to be removed" Granddad replied with tears running down his face and a lump is his throat.
"OK" Replied Clinton......

Clinton got up and walked around the table to gave his granddad a consoling arm around the shoulder, with this his granddad gave him a reassuring tap on the hand looked into Clinton’s eyes a whispered "thank you" and took a tissue out of his pocket to wipe away his tears from his face.
"I'm sorry Granddad, It must have been such a hard time for you both knowing you were unable to have any more children" said Clinton with a gulp and a tear in his eye.
"Yes it was a very tough time for us both, but your mother gave us so much joy that we got through it with a little bit of help from some close family and friends" Granddad replied still with a tear in his eyes......
"If you don't want to go on I will understand" Clinton replied with sadness in his voice and looking into his granddads eyes.
"It's OK Clinton you need to know the truth and that is what I am going to tell you, you are old enough now to be told" Granddad replied.......

"What mum and James Radford was an item, mum never mentions it at all" Replied Clinton......
"Well you see Clinton and this is why your Grandmother did not want to tell you this until you were 18, but things changed and we have to tell you now" Replied Granddad.............
"What do you mean Granddad you were not going to tell me until I was 18" Clinton replied with some shock in his voice.............
"Well when you were born, your mother asked me and your Grandmother Georgia to swear not to tell you any thing about your father to you until you were 18" Granddad Replied with some trepidation in his voice...........................
"Why did she do that then Granddad, where was my dad, James Radford" Clinton asked.............
"Clinton, you need to brace yourself for this, you see your father died from A brain tumor, 6 weeks before you were born, it came as big shock to us all as none of us knew he had a brain tumor, but apparently he had it for some time and never told a sole, not even your mother" Granddad Replied with tears coming down his cheeks and a lump in his throat................

"OK Chelsea and it is not before time to, you should have done it years ago my girl" Granddad replied.......
Grandmother Georgia then asked "what about the twins Beth and Curtis Junior" with some worry in her voice at the thought that they had been left with there brute father.
But then two little faces looked around the door and came running up to their Grandmother saying

Clinton's mother with tears rolling down her face looked him in the eye and said "you are a good lad" thinking to herself just like his father was.

"I know I am mum, I know I am" Clinton replied and with that Clinton took his mum up stairs to the bathroom to clean her up and all the while Clinton was thinking if only his biological father was alive.
While Clinton was in the bathroom cleaning his mother wounds up he kept looking deep into her eyes and kept thinking of his father James Radford, thinking to himself why did you not tell me mum.
"Is There something wrong Clinton, love you, seem so far away in a world of your own" Clinton's mother Chelsea asked.
"Is There something wrong Clinton, love you, seem so far away in a world of your own" Clinton's mother Chelsea asked.

"Ah OK then just thought there was something you are not telling me or wanted to tell me" Chelsea asked..................
"Well mum and please don't be mad with Nan or Granddad about this, it took them a lot of courage and they were very reluctant to do it, but I pressured them both" Clinton said while looking deep in to his mothers eyes with a tear running down his cheek.........

Chelsea then pushed Clinton gently away and looked him in the eye and said " I thought it was right to not tell you as I see your father James in you every day, you are his double, I just hope you turn out like him and you are starting to in so many ways"
With that Clinton gave his mother a great big hug, in a way they had not hugged for some years as his step-father was jealous of the love Clinton and his mother had and now Clinton knew why or so he thought.
As Clinton finished sorting his mothers wounds out, Grandmother Georgia came in to the bathroom to see how things were going, she looked at them both and she knew that Clinton had told his mother about the conversation he had had with his grandfather earlier and she said to her daughter "Sorry Chelsea but it slipped out and your father just thought it was time to tell Clinton the truth about his James"
"Mum I'm not upset, I'm just glad it is out in the open now, as it’s been eating me up ever since Clinton turned thirteen" Chelsea replied with some relief in her voice........
"Mother what was he like my father was he a good man" Clinton asked.
